More Details For Customers About Wireless Plan Changes

The announcement about the major changes to the EONI Wireless Internet plans gives an overview of the changes taking place November 1, 2011.  This message adds details to what existing customers should expect.  The simplest way to describe this may be to describe what happens to you based on your previous wireless plan.  If you were previously on our Bronze plan, we kept you in the new Bronze plan.  Customers whose plan had speeds faster than our old Bronze plan have been moved into our new Silver plan.

If you were on our prior Bronze plan, this was our lowest level or basic plan.  The maximum download speed was 512 kilobits per second with a maximum upload speed of 256 kilobits per second.  The monthly price was $29.95.  The major change to this plan is to double the maximum download speed to 1 megabit per second (1000 kilobits per second).  Also, previously all plans had an included data download or transfer amount included in the plan, and data transfer above that amount resulted in overage charges.  Overage charges have been eliminated and there is no data transfer amount or data limit with any plan.  Data transfer is now governed by a Fair Use Policy.  Customers on the Bronze plan should not need changes to their EONI wireless equipment.  Other than seeing faster Internet access, this change should be completely transparent.

If you were a customer on a faster plan than the old Bronze plan, the published download speeds were listed as up to 768 kilobits per second or 1.5 megabits per second.  You have been moved to the new Silver plan, which has download speeds up to 5 megabits per second and upload speeds up to 1 megabit per second.  The new Silver plan price is $39.95 per month.  Thus the maximum speeds are much faster than you could receive previously, and the price has been reduced for nearly all the customers moved to the new Silver plan.  Data transfer is governed by the Fair Use Policy as noted above.  Regarding the maximum wireless speeds and the EONI wireless equipment at your location, please read the discussion below for further details.

Our new Gold plan now offers a maximum download speed of up to 10 megabits per second and up to a 2 megabit per second upload speed.  The monthly price for the Gold plan is $54.95 per month. A new Platinum plan offering a maximum download speed of 15 megabits per second and a maximum upload speed of 2 megabits per second is now available.  The monthly price for the Platinum plan is $69.95 per month.  If you are interested in either the Gold or Platinum wireless plan, a change to your wireless equipment is probably necessary.  Data transfer in all plans is governed by the Fair Use Policy.

EONI has been working on improvements to our network to allow for these wireless plan changes for some months.  This work continues.  Not every customer in every location will have access to every plan.  This can be because your location cannot receive the EONI wireless signal at a faster rate.  Sometimes we can resolve this with an equipment change; sometimes an equipment change won’t make any difference.  The changes we have made should benefit the vast majority of our customers either by receiving faster speeds or by a reduced monthly price, and sometimes by both faster speeds and lower prices.

You should not have to do anything to your computer or other equipment to experience these faster speeds.
