This Saturday morning the main EONI headquarters was without utility
power from 7:40AM until 9:07 AM.
However, we did not miss a beat, an
auction bid, a download, an email, or fail to serve up your web site we
host because our systems automatically handle power problems like this. Nice huh?
EONI's headquarters ran on automatic backup batteries for 30 seconds to as we did not know how long the outage would last...but seeing this was not a quick blink of the lights...our generator computer automatically started up the generator the and we switched to generator power less than 40 seconds after the outage started. Our monitoring systems handled the entire power
issue automatically and notified our on call staff.
That squirrel that chose to step into the wrong place at the
wrong time serves to remind us that any time the power can go out, surge or spike.
Make sure you have a good plan for protecting your computers against sags and surges in power. Look into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to give your computer time to save your critical work in progress and keep your computer out of the repair shop. Stop by the EONI store for great personal computer power protection systems for less than $50 that can save you lots of time and frustration later (fried computer, lost data, lost productivity).
