Ernie the EONI
Computer
Ernie
was born at Eastern Oregon Net, Inc. He was built specifically for little
Timmy and was very excited about helping his soon-to-be owner. Ernie
spent the first few hours of his life working really hard, he updated himself
and stored lots of new information on his hard drive. He also made sure
all of his various parts were working and ready to go. Ernie displayed
the genuine Windows XP certificate of Authenticity and was packaged in a secure
box after being prepared for his trip to his new home.
When
the box was opened up Ernie was greeted by Timmy and his Dad. They talked
about how shiny he was and how he was going to love his new home under the
desk. Ernie was delighted to see his new room, it had green carpet, white
walls and he was placed under a stainless steel desk. Once Timmy and his
father plugged all the color coded cords into the back of Ernie, he was powered
on for the first time at his new home.
Within
moments Timmy and his Dad were playing different games, and surfing the Internet.
Ernie’s daily activities quickly became routine, he would be powered up in the
morning as Dad looked up the local weather and check a few news sites on the
Web. After school, Timmy would do his home work and play a few quick
games. Ernie would be left on and listen to Timmy and Dad having dinner
and getting Timmy ready for bed. After Timmy was in bed Dad would use
Ernie to check emails and write letters to loved ones.
But
one day disaster struck, and Ernie got a virus! He is not sure where it
came from but he was really sick and could not do the things that Timmy and his
Father asked him to do. At times he would have to power down, no matter
how hard he tried he was just too sick to continue.
One
morning Dad removed Ernie from his place under the desk and placed him back
into the box he came home in. Ernie was scared; he was sick and did not
know what Dad was doing. After a ride in the truck Ernie was moved around
and he could hear talking outside his box. When the box was opened he was
gently removed and given a piece of paper to wear. On it was his owner's
name, address and phone number and a description of what was wrong.
After
Dad was done talking, someone gently removed Ernie from the box and placed him
on a shelf in a room in the back. In the room he met Connie Compaq, Dora
Dell (whose foreign dialect was hard to understand) and Henry Hewlett-Packard.
They were all sick like Ernie.
Later
that day Ernie was removed from the shelf. Because he was born at EONI he
was scheduled to go before Dora, Connie and Henry. Once in the back Ernie
was worked on by some nice people who fixed him up like he was brand new.
They removed the virus that was making him sick and brought all his software up
to date. The best part was when they cleaned out all the dust from his
insides.
That
afternoon he was back in his box and heading home. He was very excited to
help Timmy with his home work that night. Ernie was happy once again.
