How is the connection better? We have upgraded our connection to the Internet from a 45 million bit per second connection (DS-3) to a 155 million bit per second connection (OC-3).
We only used a small percentage of our old connection, but we wanted to upgrade to make way for new DSL and voice services coming to our La Grande market.
We needed to expand the network in La Grande in order to accommodate more growth in other service areas. The new connection helps all EONI customers in all areas.
What are these new DSL and voice services? New DSL services will include faster and more reliable services for the same or less than people pay EONI or Verizon now. Wow! How can we do that? We have built our own network to replace the some elements that EONI uses in conjunction with Verizon. This means we can give your higher speed Internet plans, more control of your rates (keeping them as low as possible) and being able to give better service. On improvements to voice services:
- better rates for long distance
- voice mail to take messages while you are away or on another call
- voice mail that delivers messages to your phone, email or even on the web
- call waiting with caller ID to know who is calling while on another call
- the ability to have only certain people be able to call you to get break from callers
- DSL without regular phone service for those that prefer to not have a land line

By the first week in Feburary we will be installing our new DSL service to our employees to use at home. We believe our new services are already better, but we want the staff to test the network and make sure it works well for them. We want the services to be perfect when you use them for yourself.
